Printing technique
Risography is a unique printing technique that combines elements of screen printing (serigraphy) and photocopying. It was originally developed in Japan in the 1980s as a cost-effective method for producing high-volume prints, but it has since gained popularity in the art and design world for its distinctive aesthetic. Indeed, this technique is widely used for creating zines, posters, art prints, and limited edition books, offering a distinctive, textured aesthetic that stands out from standard digital printing.
The artist
Ana, known by her artistic name Anaiaia, is a Brazilian graphic designer and illustrator. She has collaborated with numerous design studios in Porto Alegre and São Paulo. In recent years, her focus has shifted toward branding and packaging design, with one of her projects winning a prestigious gold medal at the Pentawards in 2019. Ana is also a skilled illustrator, running her own brand, Anaiáiá, and has participated in several illustration and design fairs in Brazil and London. She values projects that allow her to incorporate her unique, personal illustration style into design, though she is versatile and adapts to various artistic styles depending on the project’s needs.
